Being a single mom can be really tough. In many countries and states, bias and prejudice still exists for single moms. In fact, being a single mom can be a major obstacle to financial success. Single moms find that inherent bias and prejudice undermine their earning power in today business world, which stereotypes single moms and discriminates openly against them.
Many of us want to get better job with better pay so that we can put our children into better educational institutions. However, this seems to be very difficult for single mom. Many single moms are now awaken to this prejudice and are now demanding the same right as other married mothers.
In the business world, this prejudice and bias arise due to the fact that single mom is perceived as business risk. Many business owners feel that hiring single mothers will incur extra expense on their parts, as they have to pay health care cost for their dependents. Some business owners use this health care excuse to pay a lower salary when hiring single moms.
Many single moms will still take up the job even if they know they are not treated right. Having some income is better than no income. Some of them have to work over 40 hours a week to support their children with minimal help from the state or irresponsible dads. They have to hire someone to care for the children when they are working which add on to the cost. If they get sick, the situation becomes desperate both in terms of income and childcare.
Today, many of these single moms are starting to band together in local organizations to help other single mothers. Babysitting clubs, financial and social services are a few of the benefits these clubs provide. Some of them are also petitioning their public officials to change the laws that make it legal to ask a mother's marital status or if she has children. Single moms who have attained financial success are now looking out for other single mothers like themselves and helping them up the ladder to success.
